A partner at HPM&B, Austa S. Devlin joined the firm in 1982 and has more than 25 years experience in litigating complex claims in both New York State Courts and Federal Courts, in the areas of medical liability, civil rights, and general negligence. She represents medical professionals in matters before the New York State Department of Health and Office of Professional Medical Conduct.
Austa represents clients in all phases of litigation, including all pre-trial proceedings and trial. Over the years she has defended scores of cases, through trial, settlement, or dismissal, defending claims of medical malpractice, civil rights abuses involving alleged deprivation of medical treatment, and other negligence claims. She explores all available means of disposing of claims, and aggressively pursues pre-trial dismissal or early settlement where appropriate for the client.
Before the New York State Department of Health, Office of Professional Medical Conduct, Austa represents individuals charged with professional misconduct, from the investigation stage through hearings. In addition, she counsels institutional clients, hospitals, individuals, and municipalities with regard to litigation, risk management and risk avoidance.
