Appellate Practice

The attorneys in Heidell, Pittoni, Murphy & Bach, LLP's Appellate Practice Group have substantial experience in complex appellate litigation in the federal and state courts. We have handled more than 200 appeals in a broad variety of cases and with frequent success, including several groundbreaking cases in the highest courts of New York and Connecticut. In addition to our work on behalf of parties to appellate proceedings, we represent clients who wish to participate in appellate proceedings as amicus curiae. Appellate advocacy is a unique skill and it demands familiarity with the arcane procedures of the appellate courts. Our appellate attorneys are dedicated to this important specialty.

Our appellate attorneys also have trial experience, allowing an understanding of how best to present arguments and create a record that will lead to favorable results at trial, during post-trial proceedings, or on appeal. Notably, HPM&B has been a leader in successful challenges of unqualified or unreliable medical expert testimony under Daubert and Frye and pioneered the use of bifurcation motions in medical malpractice cases.
