Steven F. Seidman, M.D., J.D. is a physician-attorney who is Of Counsel to HPM&B. Dr. Seidman has over fifteen years of experience as a clinical anesthesiologist and has taught and held academic appointments at numerous medical institutions in the metropolitan area including Cornell Medical College, Mt. Sinai School of Medicine, and New York Medical College. Dr. Seidman has lectured extensively on matters involving Healthcare Regulatory Agencies, Physician Discipline, and the Patient-Physician relationship. Dr. Seidman is board-certified in Anesthesiology, a Fellow of the American College of Anesthesiologists, and was admitted to the New York Bar in 2003.
Dr. Seidman defends physicians and other health care providers' interests in disciplinary matters, insurance company disputes, employment agreements, and medical malpractice actions. Dr. Seidman has represented numerous physicians before the Office of Professional Medical Conduct (OPMC) and Department of Education when medical licensure actions were at risk resulting from charges of professional misconduct, alcohol or drug impairment, or sexual allegations. He has also represented physicians who were the subjects of insurance company audits, repayment demands, coding challenges, and Medicare/Medicaid reviews. On behalf of his physician-clients, Dr. Seidman has negotiated physician employment contracts, participation agreements in insurance company networks, and payment of outstanding claims initially denied by insurers.
Drawing on his experience in clinical anesthesiology, Dr. Seidman brings a unique perspective in defending physicians involved in high-exposure medical malpractice actions. These matters frequently involve peri-operative mortality or severe morbidity. Successful defense of physicians named in these actions frequently necessitates in depth analysis of complex medical and legal issues -- a requirement that Dr. Seidman is uniquely qualified to fulfill.

Seidman Appointed to Board of Trustees of the New York Lawyers Assistance Trust
New York's Chief Judge Judith Kaye has appointed Steve Seidman to the Board of Trustees of the New York Lawyers Assistance Trust. The trust provides statewide leadership and financial assistance to programs for the treatment and prevention of alcohol and substance dependency among lawyers, judges and law students in New York State. This is an outgrowth of Mr. Seidman's ongoing work with the Committee for Physicians' Health (CPH), which provides similar assistance to New York physicians.
