A partner at HPM&B, Denise A. Holzka represents institutional, corporate and individual clients in state and federal court. She defends complex medical liability cases, healthcare, products liability and mass tort actions. Her clients include makers of pharmaceutical drugs, medical devices, chemicals and fitness equipment.

On behalf of a large pharmaceutical corporation, Denise serves as Science/Medical Counsel for upward of 1900 claims involving an over-the-counter drug with a professional use pending in an MDL and twenty states. Under her direction, the HPM&B team work up and analyze individual claims, select experts, handle medical expert depositions and establish and coordinate a consistent medical-based defense in the overall litigation. As part of a global settlement initiative, she was appointed a permanent member of the Claims Review Committee, spearheading the review, valuation and administration of the individual cases.

In addition, Denise regularly advises clients about regulatory issues involving FDA, OSHA and the impact of the new rules promulgated by CMS concerning the Medicare Secondary Payer Act and the use of Medicare set-asides in liability settlements.

Denise is a frequent lecturer on various medical and legal topics. She was a presenter and judge at A.M. Best’s E-Fusion conference and has been a past lecturer at the Defense Research Institute’s Medical Liability and Health Care Law Seminar and Food Liability Conference. She is knowledgeable about causation strategies and the development of science, medical and technical aspects of litigation. She also contributed to the creation of DRI’s Daubert database.

In addition to DRI, Denise is a member of the New York State Bar Association, Women’s Bar Association of the State of New York, American Bar Association and Richmond County Bar Association.

Holzka Appears at A.M. Best's E-Fusion Conference
On October 18, 2005, Denise Holzka was in Philadelphia to participate in a panel discussion entitled, "Insider's Perspective: What We've Learned, Where We're Going." A.M Best's annual E-Fusion conference is dedicated to highlighting new developments in insurance through the innovative uses of technology.

Speeches:
Denise A. Holzka will be participating in DRI's Medical Liability and Health Care Law Seminar to be held at the Pointe Hilton Tapatio Clliffs on March 1-3, 2006. Ms. Holzka's presentation entitled "How to Read A Peer Reviewed Article - Is it Legitimate Science or Not?" is structured for younger defense lawyers within the Medical Malpractice Community and lends advice towards the developement of practice skills in the defense of cases.
